Matt Whiddon
Columbus in Color was founded by Matt Whiddon in January of 2000. Matt Whiddon, a Columbus native, graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in horticulture in 1996. Having completed internships at nearby Callaway Gardens and the prestigious Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA, Matt spent nearly 4 years in Atlanta working for Post Landscape. Post was regarded as the best in Atlanta for colorful landscaping. Matt brought similar principles of landscaping with an emphasis on color to Columbus. Today, Columbus in Color is second to none, offering full scale landscape design, installation, and maintenance services.
Passion & Experience
Matt is actively involved in the Green industry and is recognized as an industry leader throughout our city and state. He currently serves as chairman of the Georgia Green Industry Association, which promotes the advancement of horticulture throughout the state. Having a passion to promote horticultural education, Matt also teaches seminars on various horticulture-related topics to garden clubs and Master Gardener groups. Previously, Matt directed the Columbus Botanical Garden (4 years) and led the 10 Year Master Plan effort, including fundraising and oversight of initial projects. Matt also served as writer of the gardening column for Columbus and the Valley Magazine (16 years). Currently Matt serves on the board of directors for the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus.
Matt is an ordained deacon and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus, Ga.
